About Johnny Carrotseed

John and Alexandra Elhardt, and company, growing tasty food for your family and ours.

Who Is Johnny Carrotseed?

Johnny Appleseed, who wandered Ohio planting apple orchards, might be Ohio’s oldest folk hero. Maybe Johnny Appleseed had a lesser known cousin who left vegetables growing in his footsteps. That is the spirit we are trying to follow.

How We Grow

We meet or exceed organic growing standards, raising our food without pesticides or herbicides. The first and best defense against pests and disease is a healthy soil and a healthy ecosystem. When plants get the nutrition they need from the soil and the support they need from beneficial insects, they grow strong and beautiful. That gives them the resources they need to grow roots, leaves, or fruit full of nutrition and flavor – everything you need and crave. Healthy soil, protective netting, and lots of love make for great food.

Farm Warnings

The farm is home not only for three generations of our family, but also domestic and wild animals. To protect our privacy and your safety, only the walk-in cooler, greenhouses, vegetable fields, and driveway leading up to the cooler are open to customers. Children must be supervised at all times. Do not let dogs out of your vehicle. Close the cooler behind you.
Hazards include:
> Electric fence
> Thorny or rash-causing plants
> Ticks, hornets, and other aggressive critters
> Uneven walking surfaces
> A deep pond with snapping turtles
Per Ohio Code § 901.80, customers are liable for any injuries due to the inherent risks present on a farm, including those above.
